Irregardless

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 1:34 pm

I spoke with a woman who used “irregardless” three times in one conversation. I couldn’t bring myself to correct her, though I want her to stop it and be taken seriously by others. Maybe I’m a grammar snob…

Sitting still

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 1:32 pm

I can’t believe I’m not in motion right now. It’s been a very busy week/weekend on this end of the blog. I’ll take the inactivity.

Here I sit at the airport gate waiting for my flight to Orlando. It should even be on time. Woo. Yay Southwest!

My move to Portsmouth is complete-ish. 90-some percent of my junk…er…stuff is in the new place. I have a load or two in Exeter awaiting me on Friday.

Most rooms are unpacked in the new place and it resembles a home. I didn’t realize the place is a new construction. They bulldozed the old building and built a new one.

As the place has never been inhabited, there are a few quirks to work out here and there. For example, the contracters did not install a dryer vent and used a four prong plug for the dryer electricity. I couldn’t find the spout for the washing machine water to drain post-cycle. Gutters need to be installed (the roof run off was killer yesterday). There are literally a dozen items to be done to the place. Hopefully, many of these will be completed by Thursday night (when I return).

At this point, I’m hoping to sleep on the plane. It ain’t likely, but a boy can dream.

Enjoy your Sunday!!

Much love,
Gregory

LOST time

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 1:16 pm

If you’re a LOST fan craving for more after the episode airs, I recommend checking out the Lostpedia forums. Under the Main Forum, there are Episode Discussions and much, much more.  Objective Perspective is not responsible for any lost time due to LOST theory spelunking.

Be forewarned there is a SPOILER (what’s going to happen on future episodes) link on the Forum page. I’m not looking at spoilers and hope to stay away from them. If you learn about anything, please keep it to yourself. I want to get surprised as things come up on the show. Thanks!

M(eyer)TV Cribs — 2008 Season

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 12:01 pm

It’s the door to the right. Here’s the MLS listing for the property on Prospect Street in Portsmouth, NH. No, I’m not paying the full price listed there ;) Yes, New England housing/real estate prices are shocking to my Midwestern sensibilities.

Portsmouth

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 9:32 pm

Howdy y’all!

The search is over. I’m moving back to Portsmouth.

I signed a lease for six months in a place VERY close to where I lived before.

The move goes down on Saturday, though I may move some things earlier. I have the keys in my possession right now.

There WERE pics of the place online, but they’re not there now. Dammit. I’ll take some pics and post them in March.

My February is toast. I move on Saturday. On Sunday, I fly to Florida for a business trip in Orlando. I come back on Feb 28th. I have to be out of 6 Gary Lane by March 1. Whew!

Wish me luck!

PS - Are you watching the lunar eclipse? Can you see Saturn to the left of the moon? Cool, huh?

LUNAR ECLIPSE!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 6:26 pm

Be sure to check out the lunar eclipse tonight!

Eclipse schedule
The eclipse will begin when the moon enters the faint outer portion, or penumbra, of Earth’s shadow. The penumbra, however, is all but invisible to the eye until the moon becomes deeply immersed in it. Sharp-eyed viewers may get their first glimpse of the penumbra as a delicate shading on the left part of the moon’s disk about 20 minutes before the start of the partial eclipse (when the round edge of the umbra, or central shadow, first touches the moon’s left edge). During the partial eclipse, the penumbra should be readily visible as a dusky border to the dark umbral shadow.

The moon will enter Earth’s much darker umbral shadow at 8:43 p.m. ET Wednesday, which is also 7:43 p.m. CT, 6:43 p.m. MT and 5:43 p.m. PT.

Seventy-eight minutes later the moon is entirely within the shadow, and sails on within it for 51 minutes (about average for a total lunar eclipse), until it begins to find its way out at the lower left (southeastern) edge.

The moon will be completely free of the umbra by 9:09 p.m. PT Wednesday, which is 12:09 a.m. ET Thursday.

The vaguer shading of the inner penumbra can continue to be readily detected for perhaps another 20 minutes or so after the end of umbral eclipse. Thus, the whole experience ends toward 12:30 a.m. for the East Coast (with the re-brightened moon now sloping down along the high arc it describes across the sky), or during the midevening hours for the West.

LOST musings

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 11:39 pm

First, I did NOT see LOST tonight and did NOT tape it. Does anyone know how to download it from a torrent site or something like that? Ace? Anyone? I suppose I can wait until ABC posts their version on Friday.

Second, I had a thought today — why hasn’t someone punched Jack in the face for letting Sayid, Jin and Bernard get killed in the Season 3 finale? They weren’t actually killed, but they were supposed to be shot. I’m thinking someone should have kicked his ass for this by now.

Third, now that the writers are back, do you think ABC will be able to offer us more than eight episodes? It doesn’t seem likely, but those crazy kids at ABC just might pull something together.

Fourth, how and why is Ben so eerily and spookily smart? It freaks me out.

Fifth, why didn’t I tape the show tonight?

Later LOST fans!

Packing, anyone?

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 2:20 pm

If you’re in NH or MA this weekend and find yourself with a free block of time, saunter on over to 6 Gary Lane. I’ll be engaging in PackFest 2008 this weekend. I can use some help.

I don’t exactly (or otherwise) know where I’m moving yet, but I still need to prepare for the move. Given my schedule, I’ve decided I’m moving on Feb 23. Somewhere.

I have a line on a few different places in Portsmouth and Exeter. I hope to have a decision this weekend as to where my belongings and I will reside.

Stay tuned!

Delays and jetways

Filed under: Uncategorized — gregorymeyer @ 11:31 am

My 5:50 AM flight cancelled yesterday. My new 10:10 AM flight is delayed until 11:45 AM. When I arrived at MHT, they told me I got bumped to a 5:whatever PM flight. I raised hell.

I got what I want…I think. I’m back on the nearly empty 11:45 AM flight with no idea when I’m arriving at my final destination. The next connecting flight could be hours later than my original.

Oh. They’re calling people to the gate to break us the connection news. I’ll update when I get that info. For now, I wait.

Obviously, my business day is trashed. Appointments have been changed and rearranged. Such is life. It’s all just a blip. Inconvenient, but a blip.

Days like this make me want a desk job. Consistency. A routine would be nice. Something stable. Predictable.

Of course, I would hate that same job in a week or month. The minute it was nice outside, I would complain about being chained to my desk.

So I’m channelling my inner Drama Queen :) Deal with it.

On a side note, I think it would be cool to drive(?)/operate one of those jetway thingies that connects the plane to the airport gate. Just once or twice.

Dude at the counter blew me off with a curt, “You’re fine.” He’s busy, so I’ll give him a break. Rough day for everyone.

Peace, love and a bag of peanuts to you,
Greg
