no sugar or white flour…
i’m on day #45 of no drinking. it’s going very well. the only strong temptation to date was out on the hamptons at the beginning of last week. i stopped in montauk to eat at a cool, little place. traditionally, when i would stop at such a place, i would have a local brew. this time, i chose to have water with lemon…after the angel and devil on opposite shoulders fought it out
my friends, dave and kathryn, will be in new england in mere minutes. welcome to test period number two. dave and i have been known to drink some beer and wine together. we’ve gone to the great american beer festival four times. those were some doozies!
both of them know about my sabbatical from the sauce. it will definitely be interesting to go out and have non-alcoholic beer or water with lemon while they’re slugging down wine or beer. ugh.
adding insult to self-denial injury, on sunday i decided to abstain from sugar and white flour in my diet. call me crazy. seriously, go ahead. basically, i figured i’m doing well with the alcohol situation. why not try to gang up on the potential health benefits?
i’ve done well with this over the past week, too. i am giving myself every sunday as a scheduled ‘craving day’ to eat what i want. this way, i figure i’ll be able to maintain the program for a long period of time. if i didn’t have some release valve, the cravings would kill the program.
all of this is an effort to be more conscious of my choices around food and drink. whether i stick with these for a long time or 90 days, i believe my relationship with food and drink will never be the same. hopefully, i will continue to make healthy choices for a long, long time.
yay me!!

i missed june…
i didn’t blog once in all of june. i would be surprised if i had any ‘loyal readership’ left after this heinous negligence. if you stuck it out, thank you.
sooooo, what’s been going down here in cow hampshah? frankly, nothing all that exciting for me. i’ll spare the details and hit the highlights.
i chose to start therapy. it’s going well. good insights.
i chose to stop drinking for 90 days. i’m on day number 40.
i’m still not dating and i’m good with that choice.
i went to motorcycle week in laconia. thousands of other bikers did, too.
i rode around lake winnipisaukee a couple of times. it’s a great ride!
my original chaplaincy institute of maine classmates were ordained as ministers.
i stepped down from being a chaplain at unity on the river (for now).
my work territory was cut from 25 states to 5 states — NH, MA, NY, NJ and DE.
the number of reps i’m working with went from around 50 to around 100.
i went to a couple of plays and shows and performances.
i have not been walking or working out. ugh.
i bought a lawn mower and stopped borrowing them from neighbors.
i bought a weed whacker — it’s electric. (not like the electric slide)
i kayaked a few times — lakes and rivers and bays. oh my.
i shaved off my facial hair and clipped my hair using a 000 setting. i grew it all back.
i went to new york and new jersey for work a few times.
i went out to montauk in the hamptons.
i got some very minor food poisoning. i’m better now.
i moved two friends.
it got really hot.
once i start talking about the weather and it has nothing to do with a motorcycle ride or some other cool activity, it’s time to wrap it up.
i hope to visit more often. i’m not feeling it strongly enough to say that ‘i intend’ to visit more often, but that might come soon.
stay tuned for more mediocrity.
much love!
greg
